234 NEFARIOUS: WHAT IS "FAITH-BASED" HOLLYWOOD? - Video

Summer and I went to the theater this week and watched the new film Nefarious. My expectation was that secular Hollywood would, as it always does, mock Christianity and somehow glorify evil. I was wrong. Now, the screenwriters and producers of the film are Roman Catholic. Know that going in… however, the film's content (dialogue and themes) was theologically accurate and very surprising.

The script for the film comes from a book written by, Protestant Christian, Steve Deace. The book, A Nefarious Plot, was published in 2016. To be very honest, from hours of listening to Deace discuss the book, the film, and his faith, he seems to be very much orthodox and has a strong grasp of the gospel.

The book, and thus, the film since it relied exclusively on Deace's narrative, places the blame for America’s fall right where it belongs; on sin and man’s desire for autonomy, or to be his own god.

This is not an easy movie, in other words, atheists, liberals, and those religious who compromise the truth to conform to culture, can not walk away from this film and easily dismiss it, or explain it away.

But, Nefarious is not really a Christian movie. It is a faith-based film with Christian themes. As a Christian, it was extremely encouraging to hear truth coming from a real Hollywood movie instead of the standard scripts written with their self-righteous moralism and antichristian messaging.

Most surprising was the way the film addressed abortion. This was what truly made the film completely unique, in my opinion.

No spoilers here, we’re going to be careful not to give away too much, but there is so much to talk about here with the film’s cultural implications and its bold commentary that we decided to share this with you now and to encourage you to see the film yourself.
