"Diff'rent Strokes" was a groundbreaking sitcom that aired from 1978 to 1986, known for blending comedy with important social issues. The series follows Phillip Drummond, a wealthy widower businessman (played by Conrad Bain), who adopts two African American boys—Arnold and Willis Jackson (played by Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges)—after the death of their mother, who had worked for him. Phillip lives with his biological daughter, Kimberly (Dana Plato), and their housekeeper, Mrs. Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae). Over the years, the housekeeper role was later filled by Adelaide (Nedra Volz) and Pearl (Mary Jo Catlett).

The series dealt with several social issues like racism, illegal drug use, alcoholism, hitchhiking, kidnapping, and child sexual abuse.
