I tried cleaning a hot tub filter in the dishwasher, so you don't have to waste your time and money.

Here's what happened: Even after a two-hour wash cycle, dirt was stuck deep in the filter pleats. Flipping it around didn't help, either.

The dishwasher can't reach all the grime trapped inside. Plus, the harsh soap can damage the filter material, and hot water can warp the plastic parts.

Want to really get your filter clean? Spray between each pleat with a garden hose nozzle, moving up and down. For super dirty filters, soak it overnight in a filter cleaning solution. This breaks down oils and minerals that regular spraying can't remove.
