Is your hot tub taking forever to heat up this winter? And is your energy bill through the roof? Here's how to keep your hot tub heat from escaping without spending a fortune.
First, check your hot tub cover. If it's waterlogged or has cracks, it's letting all that heat escape. A good cover should be firm but not heavy with water. And the seal should be tight against the top of your spa.
Next, lower your temperature when you're not using it. Every degree above 102 degrees Fahrenheit makes your heater work harder. Drop it down 5 degrees, and you'll save money. Just remember to give it time to heat back up before you want to soak.
Finally, run your jets less. Those bubbles might feel nice, but they're actually cooling your water faster. Save the jets for when you're actually in the tub, and you'll keep more heat in your water.
Swim University makes pool and hot tub care easy for millions of homeowners. Each year, we continue to help more people with water chemistry, cleaning, and troubleshooting. We know taking care of a swimming pool or spa can be difficult. And it’s hard to find a trusted source of information. This is the reason we created Swim University.
